See my latest work!
Except for the time I spent studying with Frank Howell, I am for the most part, self taught. I did my first painting when I was ten. Through the years I continued to sketch and copy pieces produced by the masters. As my confidence grew, I began to take on commissions. It was not my primary means of income until 2017, when I left my job withe banking industry. Previous to that, I worked in a law office in Santa Fe, N.M. while running a ranch before and after my regular work day, and on the weekends, The ranch was call "Almosta Ranch", where I and my wife dealt with Appaloosa horses and helped neighbors work their cows in the spring.
I choose to work in oils for the most part, however I will occasionally use charcoal and pencil. I use acrylics when painting abstracts, because of their quick dry time.
Unlike many artists, my studio and a blank canvas or sheet of paper are all the inspiration I need. Things I see during the day, memories from my childhood, things I read in my Bible, and commissioners keep me as busy as I would like to be. Life is inspirational. Inspiration is an emotion realized , painting, just like singing, are avenues of emotional expression. When we finally discover the joy that comes from self-expression, painting becomes a drug. I am hooked!
